ABOUT US
Welcome to the wonderful world of Scouting. We are Cub Scout Pack 89. Our regular meeting place is Beech Grove United Methodist Church on Driver Lane. We generally meet every Tuesday night from 7:00-8:00 PM, but often run a little over depending on the enthusiasm of the boys. Three weeks out of the month are usually devoted to Den meetings where the boys work on collective achievements or electives with each other, their Den Leaders and parents. The third Tuesday of the month is set aside for a meeting of the whole Pack where special announcements, presentations, and awards are made. Also, as our Pack time and schedule allows, we also participate in many of the Colonial Trail District’s and the Colonial Virginia Council’s numerous events.
We are very glad that you chose Pack 89. We feel that it is important that the boys in the immediate area are involved as a group with their friends from their neighborhoods and their schools. Many of the boys are already friends, but time restrictions in school and the distances involved between some Suffolk neighborhoods may make seeing each other difficult. Scouting is an excellent way to bring them together. Further, this familiarity with their peers and their surroundings makes it easier to conduct meetings and events in an orderly manner.
Pack 89 was founded right here in Driver in 1989 by local parents and has been recognized as a National Boy Scouts of America Quality Unit since 1992. Additionally, the Pack has been awarded the Colonial Virginia Council Commissioner’s Trophy in 1997, 1999, and 2001. This is one of the highest honors that a unit may receive in recognizing the scout’s level of participation, achievement, enthusiasm, and most importantly, fun. Further, the leadership of the Pack is among the best trained anywhere. We have leaders trained at the Area, Council, and District levels and we are recognized for hosting and administering District training events for new leaders and interested parents. We are confident that, with your help, this Pack can help your scout grow and he will help make the Pack go – just as the Law of the Pack says it should.
