OUR WOLF DEN (DEN 1)

Welcome to the 2010-2011 Cub Scouting Year! The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to serve others by helping instill values in young people and, in other ways, to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential. I look forward to working with you, and your boy, as we explore the trail to earning the rank of Wolf Scout. The goal is simple: to teach each boy to be self reliant, dependable, and to become confident in his ability to grow into a good citizen.

To begin with, all parents must read pages 1-7 in the Wolf Handbook to become familiar with the guidelines and structure of the Cub Scouting experience. This section will further explain the process of how you and your child will work together to complete the Wolf trail. If your son has not done so already, please work with them to complete the Bobcat Trail (pages 16-26). This must be completed prior to being awarded any other Achievements.

Our first goal is to achieve Wolf rank by the Blue and Gold Banquet on Feb. 26, 2011. Between now and then, we have 13-den meetings to complete 12 achievements. I have created a schedule of the den meeting activities and homework assignments to keep us on track. I expect the boys to adhere to the schedule and the Homework due dates. Remember our Motto? “Do your Best!”

Parental involvement is very important. Pre-reading the Wolf book with your son each week will ensure his success and growth as a Scout. You can work on Arrow Point Trail Electives anytime, however the awards will not be presented until after your son has completed all 12 achievements for the rank of Wolf Scout. As previously stated, we are trying to do so by the Blue and Gold Banquet.

I realize that some boys will not be able to attend every week for various reasons: illness, schoolwork, and other conflicts. Having the schedule will allow you to know what your child missed so you can help them catch-up and keep them on track for Blue and Gold.

Thank you for becoming a Scouting Family. I look forward to working with each of you and getting to know more about you and your son.

Yours in Scouting,

Brian G. Champigny
Wolf Den Leader
